Hafford grew up along the railway. The line linking Prince Albert and North Battleford was laid in 1913, and a site on that line was chosen for the village. Before that, the early community was served by the Luxembourg Post Office, and schools had already appeared in the area, beginning with the Whiteberry School District, whose building opened in 1909, followed by the Rus School District in 1910. Many more rural school districts were organized through the 1910s.
